Grail is a fantasy card game built around automatic combat, where the assembled deck fights on its own once a match begins. Rather than playing cards turn by turn, players construct a collection beforehand and then watch the encounter resolve itself, with every clash decided by the cards, upgrades and traits chosen during the preparation phase. The result is a strategy experience that shifts emphasis away from moment-to-moment execution and toward planning, synergy-hunting and long-term deck construction.

Matches pit players against both computer-controlled monsters and other human opponents in a competitive ladder structure. Runs are designed to be compact, typically lasting somewhere between a quarter of an hour and roughly three quarters of an hour, which makes the format suited to short sessions as well as extended play. Wins accumulate across runs, and the progression arc casts the player as a mercenary fighter working upward through the ranks toward mastery of automated combat.

Between fights, the real decision-making takes place. Players draft fresh cards into their pool, spend resources on upgrades that raise a card’s power, and alter or enchant existing cards to shift how they behave.
