CODE VEIN II is an action role-playing game set in a distant future where humanity and immortal beings known as Revenants share the same fractured world. That fragile balance breaks apart when a phenomenon called the Luna Rapacis appears in the sky, stripping Revenants of their minds and reshaping them into feral creatures known as Horrors. The player takes the role of a hunter tasked with tracking these creatures down, only to discover that the corruption is not an isolated outbreak but the leading edge of a collapse that will eventually consume everything.

The narrative turns on a girl named Lou, whose ability to bend time allows the protagonist to move between the ruined present and the era that preceded it. Journeys into the past are not simply flashbacks. Choices made there ripple forward, changing the fates of Revenant figures who otherwise meet grim ends, and gradually assembling a picture of the buried history that led to the current disaster. Exploration alternates between decayed modern landscapes and older versions of the same locations, encouraging players to compare what a place was against what it became.

Combat is built around deliberate, reactive melee exchanges in which enemy attack patterns must be read and answered rather than overwhelmed.
