Dread Delusions is one of those games I can perfectly understand people not enjoying, and I myself find it pretty difficult to evaluate. It has way too many shortcomings and it’s pretty repetitive as far as gameplay is concerned, but it’s such a home run in terms of world, atmosphere, lore and writing that I really enjoyed my 20ish hours with the game, so I recommend it for sure. Many said that Dread Delusion is indie Morrowind. I didn’t play Morrowind, but from what I understand the comparison sort of stops at “it’s a weird ass setting with mushrooms in it”. The two games certainly have little in common as far as being an RPG is concerned. DD is a very lite RPG, with characteristics such as attributes, stat checks and factions, but they all range from “kind of shallow” to “absolutely superfluous”. It’s more akin to Lunacid (no surprise that the two games shared devs) and felt pretty much like a dungeon crawler translated into an open-ish world RPG format.
