Thank Goodness You’re Here! is a parody of various English stereotypes and culture. The humour is going to land if you’re from the UK or have ever lived there and is probably hit-or-miss if you don’t fit into either of those categories. A lot of the humour is visual gags, but there’s plenty of clever wordplay and zingers that are quintessentially British and without context will be lost on international audiences. I can’t speak from that perspective, but as Northerner I thought it was pretty charming. While I didn’t laugh out loud at any particular moment, I did have a grin on my face throughout most of the game and I consider that to be just as good. It’s a difficult game to critique because I think you’ll know if this is for you within minutes of playing it. I will say that as a game, it’s a little underwhelming to actually play. The gameplay consists of slapping things in the environment that eventually build to some sort of gag or resolution in the town. The results are always worth seeing but the gameplay is repetitive and a bit dull. The game is very short but I think it was smart to keep it brief because it ends just before the gameplay starts

English culture, specifically Northern England, but ignore the elitist losers in the reviews who claim only the most inbred Briton can understand this game. The humour uses old English words and northern slang but it would still make sense to someone who lives outside of our tiny island. It’s not as if we closely guard our lexicon from the outside world, most Americans know what a “nonce” is. I bought a copy of this game for a Polish friend of mine and he seemed to enjoy the game just as much as I did, if not more. The game is not as funny as reviews claim either, but that’s not a bad thing because that’s not the appeal of this game. Charm is what this game has, everything and everyone you see is so instantly lovable and endearing, with cute reactions when poked. Puzzles are simple and laid-back but fun to do for the visual payoff alone. Every time you return to an area it has new people to talk to or a new path to follow. The music is lovely and sets the scenes well and the voice cast are all delightful, I especially love the decision to make Matt Berry voice 1/4 of the cast, an inspired decision. I know £16 seems quite outrageous for a game that’s only 3 hours long but for a small team making a game this dense in detail and animation work it’s clear you’re paying for quality, not quantity.
